Aged Care Employee Day to celebrate Rising Star

Peninsula Villages is encouraging the Central Coast community to honour aged care workers and volunteers and say “thanks for caring” in the lead up to Aged Care Employee Day this Friday 7 August.

The not-for-profit aged care provider is celebrating the day by recognising the hard work and commitment of its care team and acknowledging care service employee, Maddison Davis who is a finalist in the NSW Leading Age Services Australia (LASA) Awards.

Nominated in the Rising Star category of the state awards, Maddison - at just 22 years of age - is an inspiration to many in the aged care industry.

“Aged Care Employee Day is a day to celebrate the quality of care and commitment that we see each and every day and we are delighted to have one of our young employees recognised in these awards,” said Peninsula Villages Chief Executive Officer, Shane Neaves.

“This year, we say a special ‘thank you’ for all our team members’ continuing devotion in protecting so many people at risk from the coronavirus pandemic.

“We salute them because they all play vital roles - from our nurses, care workers and wellbeing professionals, to our chefs, laundry team, gardeners, receptionists, managers and volunteers.

“Some may be called superheroes, some are quiet achievers, but everyone in our industry contributes to the holistic care provided and Maddison is a shining example of the integral role our team play in what can often be a challenging sector to work in.

“Maddison is not only a role model for the aged care industry, but she also has a deep passion for her role which is shown in her ability to implement a consumer directed model of care that is tailored to each and every resident at our village,” added Shane.

Peninsula Villages has approximately 400 team members supporting its 300 residents across independent living, residential aged care and dementia care.

Aside from Maddison’s finalist award, the organisation itself is a finalist in the NSW LASA Awards for making an outstanding contribution to care and services by demonstrating leadership, innovation and excellence.

“The last few months have been tough for our industry and the world as we battle the threat of this global health pandemic, while protecting the most vulnerable in our care,” continued Shane.

“In an environment where financial viability is tough, Peninsula Villages is extremely proud that as an independent community organisation we can maintain financial success and surplus that is well placed to ensure we deliver a higher standard of both accommodation and committed staff to service our ageing community.

“We are extremely excited to celebrate Aged Care Employee Day on Friday, a day that acknowledges the ongoing dedication and commitment of our industry to protect our residents as best as we can during these times. For that we join others in saying, ‘thanks for caring’,” concluded Shane.

Aged Care Employee Day is a national day to acknowledge the more than 360,000 dedicated people who care for and support around 1.3 million older Australians. The LASA Excellence in Age Services Awards will be held online this Friday.
